Kristin Basson, white wine maker at Fleur du Cap, presented a Terroir tasting of white wine varietals coming from different areas. This lady knows her stuff! We were all very impressed with the wealth of knowledge she brought. She explained the influences of the elements on the grapes, the timing of picking, the fine-tuning of the wine maker’s skills and the unpredictable effects of the events of a season, like fires, drought and uneven ripening of grapes. So many factors to consider. (The wine was milky-looking, because the tank was stirred the day before and the wines had not settled to clarity yet.) We even got to blend our own little blend of white from the different young white wines we tasted. I cannot wait to taste the final, bottled Fleur du Caps for 2016!
The next tasting evening will be in May. Book early to avoid disappointment.
R150 includes a light finger supper at the Bergkelder wine shop afterwards, where you can buy your wines at leisure.
